Dr. K. A. Subramanian is an Associate Professor in Centre for Energy Studies, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Prior to joining to this Institute, he worked as a Scientist in Indian Institute of Petroleum after he received his Doctoral degree in Internal Combustion Engines (Mechanical Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology Madras. 


His areas of research:

(i)  Development of dedicated automotive Internal Combustion engines/vehicles for use of alternative fuels including hydrogen, biodiesel, biogas and ethanol

(ii) Injection and Spray characteristics of Biofuel

(iii) Development of HCCI concept engine, Dual fuel engine and Bifuel engine

(iv) Development of Zero emission engines including GHGs

(v) Development of hydrogen fuelled engine for sustainable power generation

(vi) Simulation, modeling and CFD of Internal Combustion Engine processes


He teaches subject including alternative fuels for transportation and hydrogen energy. He has developed jointly an M.Tech Course entitled “Hydrogen energy”. He had been nominated to participate the project “study mission on Energy Efficiency” conducted by Delphi Pvt Ltd, Germany and sponsored by Asian Productivity Organization (APO), Japan. He has professional membership in Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), National Productivity Council and Combustion Institute (Indian Section). He is a member of several national committees including Bureau of Indian Standards. He has completed several R&D projects and one patent application has been filed in his name. He has guided Ph.D Scholars in the research area of utilization of alternative fuels in internal combustion engines and many Ph.D research works are in-progress in this area.  He has published several research papers in reputed International Journals and Conferences.

(i) Development of a Stationary Diesel Engine for Dual Fuel Operation of Biodiesel and CNG Fuel funded by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India (Recently completed)

(ii) Comparative Evaluations of Performance and Mass Emissions of an Automotive Passenger Vehicle Fuelled with the Enriched Biogas using Field Trial Tests funded by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy Sources (MNRE), Government of India (In-Progress)


Patent: Control Strategy of Optimum CNG Fuel Injection for BSEC Improvement and Emission (CO2 and NOx) Reduction of a Dual Fuel Stationary Diesel Engine (Patent application has been filed)
