Professor Dahiya has interest in Industrial Applications of Plasma, Dusty Plasma, Energy and Environment, Air and Water Pollution, Global Warming, Solid Waste Management, Instrumentation, MHD Power Generation, Vacuum Technology etc.
He has been Vice Chancellor of CDL University, Sirsa; Chairman G.A.T.E.; Chairman/Member various International, National and Institute Bodies/Committees; Founder Co-ordinator of Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources, sponsored National Renewable Energy Fellowships; Vice-Chairman/acting Chairman of Plasma Science Society of India and is a leading Plasma and Environment researcher at CES, IIT Delhi for over 25 years. At present he is on lien to MNIT, Jaipur as Director since 2005.
In the country and abroad he has contributed to the development of many nodal programmes on Plasma Technologies, Energy Systems for Decentralised Applications and development of Institutions. His contributions include setting up of two well-equipped plasma laboratories dedicated to high density thermal plasma, volume generation of negative ions, plasma nitriding and plasma processing of surfaces. Pulsed corona discharge, is another area in which he has made significant contribution. He has supervised research on waste water treatment for decentralized applications, global warming and solid waste management.
Professor Dahiya had also developed an Integrated Energy Technology Centre at a rural site making use of the local renewable energy resources; the energy systems being community size biogas plant, biomass gasifier, green house, improved cook stove, solar thermal and photovoltaic devices.
On International level he has visited several countries such as USA, Japan, Germany, Netherlands, France, U.K., China and Brazil etc. In Netherlands, Germany and Japan, he was associated with prestigious International experimental facilities for industrial applications of plasma.
His sponsored and consultancy projects worth several crore rupees are financed by International sponsors (European Commission; EPA, USA and NSF, USA); National funding agencies (DST, MNES, ISRO, MHRD, DST Haryana) and some prominent industries (BHEL, IPCL, GCEL, SIMCO).
Professor Dahiya was honoured with Distinguished Alumini Award of Kurukshetra University and many International and National fellowships such as INSA-JSPS Japan fellowship, DAAD German fellowship, Netherlands fellowships, CSIR fellowship, Haryana Government Merit Scholarship, National Scholarship and others in his academic career. Over the past several years he has taught M.Tech and pre-Ph.D. courses on Energy, Ecology, Environment, Direct Energy Conversion, Fusion Energy, Integrated Energy Systems and Plasma Technology to IIT Delhi students and has been key-note speaker and resource person at several International and National conferences and programmes. He has supervised 14 Ph.D. and many M.Tech students in CES and outside. He has published about 140 papers in Journals and Conferences of repute and edited one book to his credit.
